Happy Friday + Geometric Top

Can’t believe it’s Friday already! Above is a little top I made for K from this book (isbn 978-4-529-04894-1). I LOVE IT. I desaturated the image a bit for a vintage-y feel, so the color is a much stronger fuchsia in actuality. The images below are a better representation of the awesomeness of the top.

The cute blue and white striped button is from a dear friend, who brought me back a packet of adorable buttons from Amsterdam. They’re from a store called HEMA, which is like Target, but because it’s european, way better. Check out their fun site!

The linen-blend shorts were made last year and still fit. Comfy yet stylish, that’s the way we roll around here.

**P.S. For some reason, K insists on wearing band aids all the time. For months, I don’t think I’ve taken a single picture of her without one slapped on somewhere on her body.

Happy weekend, all!

Pattern Play

A little late to the game, perhaps, but I’ve been hooked on Downton Abbey these days. I’m still working my way through Season 1, and while I watch, I’ve been doodling some patterns. I’m currently working on a pink (of course) colorway with lace patterns as Mary tries to decide whether to marry Matthew…intrigue!

Shelter from the rain

It’s starting to get chilly these days, and soon the famous Seattle rainy season will begin…with that theme in mind, here is one of my digital illustrations I created using origami textures. One of my favorites! I’m also submitting it for Illustration Friday, which I haven’t done in eons…

Strawberry Cupcakes

When I saw the recipe for strawberry cupcakes in the summer edition of Sweet Paul, I knew I had to try it out. It was easy and unfussy as far as recipes go, but the consistency turned out more shortcake than fluffy cupcakes. Not necessarily a bad thing, and with a dollop of whipped cream and strawberry slices, I had no complaints whatsoever and these little efforts help me celebrate life.

An inviting home…

Lately I’ve been eyeing the fiddle-leaf fig trees on all the design and style blogs that I obsessively read. I have a serious black thumb and can rarely keep even succulents alive for long…however, I think a giant house plant could change all that.

Creating an inviting home is challenging. I spent countless hours rearranging furniture and painted many rooms this summer, but I still feel like our house is missing that “aahhh, so cozy” factor.

I have friends over often, but I usually end up wondering if I could have done something differently to make the guests feel more welcome and comfortable. I used to scoff at this whole notion of “entertaining,” but I’m realizing that it’s actually quite a valuable skill. I’d like to work on making sure that people feel at ease and nurtured when they come to my house. It doesn’t require anything special, I know this. I think it has to start with loving your home and wanting to share it with others in a relaxed way. Something for me to chew on.

In addition to scoring a fiddle-leaf fig tree, I have some goals for this fall to make our home look better and cozier, and I’m feeling pretty ambitious:

1. Paint the living room
2. Paint the kitchen
3. Add more art to the walls
4. Add pretty textiles
5. Buy fresh flowers often
6. Get the fugly window treatment situation under control (seriously, none of the rooms have any decent window coverings and it drives me batty)

I’m off to hunt down easy tutorials for DIY roman shades!
