The best part of working on my book SEWING LOVE wa The best part of working on my book SEWING LOVE was, of course, the people. I followed my intuition when it came to every aspect of the book, and the models were no exception. I couldn’t have asked for a lovelier bunch and today I wanted to highlight a few of them. There were 9 models total, which is a lot to cover in one little post so we’ll stick to 4. Clockwise from upper left: Wendee who is a dynamo bookseller at @qabookco (with a powerhouse former career in Public Relations) — I hope to be like her when I grow up. She was so surprised when I asked if she’d be willing to model as I was purchasing books from her at the store! SO happy she said yes.

Mimi @mimimosa05 - multifaceted actress and champion advocate for Latinx youth and families. I met her at an event in which I was participating at a homeless shelter and loved her positive approach to everything.

Natasha @natashaalphonse : Ceramic artist extraordinaire. I connected with her through my original photographer @le.segal (who moved to California and unfortunately couldn’t fully work on SEWING LOVE, though we were able to include a couple of her photos in the book). Natasha hails from Canada and infuses her gorgeous ceramics with the traditions of her Denesuline tribe. She has such a serene vibe and we featured many of her pieces in the book.

Melizza - sewing folks will most likely recognize the gorgeousness that is @melizzamakes and did you know that she’s also a phenomenal gluten-free baker @lindenparkwhisk ? One of the sweetest people I’ve gotten to know over the last few years, and I thoroughly enjoy her cakes too! Thank you @karenlepage.me for introducing us!

As cliche as it sounds, these women are beautiful inside and out, and we had so much fun despite the complicated scheduling due to COVID. We were extra careful and had crazy Zoom fittings and tried to minimize group photo shoots, kept masks on except for on-camera moments, postponed whenever things felt risky, etc. etc.

Thank you, Wendee, Mimi, Natasha and Melizza for making the garments shine. The whole process was amazing!
