Monday Outfit on Friday: Collaboration

December 13, 2013

Happy Friday! I'm finally getting around to posting the Monday outfit today. It's a special one -- a collaboration of sorts. This ultra chic long cardi is the handiwork of the one and only Ba-chan (aka "Grandma" in Japanese, aka my mom). This is a noteworthy garment for many reasons, but mostly because this is perhaps the most restrained creation I have ever seen materialize from my mom's hands. The woman's favorite color is shocking pink, and no embellishment is safe from her clutches. The fact ... Read more

Monday Outfit: Redux

December 2, 2013

Good morning! It was a busy weekend that didn't leave a whole lot of sewing time, but I managed to stitch up this long-sleeved top and pants knowing that K needs more of these. It feels like she's going through a major growth spurt so I decided to start cutting out the 130cm size, which roughly corresponds to an American size 8. Alas, she's swimming in the clothes and it was one of those projects that refused to cooperate. I was also in the mood to use up some fabric that I've had on my ... Read more

Monday Outfit: Quilted Jacket + Boho Dress

November 25, 2013

And I'm back! Not quite 100% but a whole lot better, and feeling nourished by my mama's homemade food. My mom is visiting for six weeks (!) so I am going to be very well-fed for the next month and a half. And K is on cloud nine with all this Ba-chan attention. So let's talk about this week's outfit -- a bit of a departure for me, wouldn't you say? Well, at least the dress feels a little more globally-inspired and decorative than my usual style. I'll tell you a secret: it used to be a ... Read more

Little Mittens

November 21, 2013

I finally slept through the night on Tuesday, so I cautiously approached my sewing table to see if I had the energy to make something yesterday. I've been missing sewing terribly. I rooted around and recalled that I'd been planning to sew K some mittens since it's been getting so cold lately and she's either lost or outgrown the ones she had. Enter Oliver + S and my trusty copy of Little Things To Sew. It seemed a manageable project for an undernourished, bronchial-challenged, ... Read more

Monday Outfit: Jammies

November 11, 2013

Thank you so much, everyone, for all the kind comments and emails! K is much better, though the coughing is still off and on. I'm still pretty loopy as well, but we've finally had one cough-free night which felt like manna from heaven. My little brother came to visit from Los Angeles this past weekend, which also helped, because he and K adore each other. There's something about extra attention and affection that does a soul good, I think. As you can imagine, K spent a lot of time in her ... Read more

I’ve been spending less time around here — the I’ve been spending less time around here — the landscape has been feeling dark and murky and I wish I had a magical luminous flower like this bunny to light the way…#procreatewatercolorfun
