Sewing for Me: A Muumuu by any other name…

September 19, 2013

...is still a muumuu. But this knit tunic top is so comfortable, it's bound to be in high rotation. As much as I love clothes that fit me perfectly (that one day I will finally be able to make), oftentimes I just want to roll around in loose, stretchy garb that require no effort.   I used Butterick 5855 View A to make this tunic, and the sizing is beyond generous. I cut the medium and took in about three inches on each side. Look at it! I could fit almost two of me in there. If ... Read more

Chocolate Covered Marshmallows…an attempt

September 18, 2013

A while ago, we had some kiddos over and decided to make chocolate covered marshmallows. I had whipped up a batch of marshmallows the night before using this recipe. As a general rule, I don't like store-bought marshmallows, but homemade ones? Divine. So fluffy and pillowy and cloud-like... So when you let a bunch of kids including toddlers go to town with marshmallows and melted chocolate chips, above is what you get. I can practically hear the tut-tutting of food bloggers en masse. Giveaway: Pinkish Floral Fabrics [CLOSED]

September 17, 2013

It's been a while since I've done a giveaway, hasn't it? Because I consigned quite a bit of fabric at Our Fabric Stash recently (which I have yet to talk about), my overflow of fabrics is starting to look a teensy bit more manageable so there may not be too many more of these giveaways... I was noticing some runway looks with watercolor prints popping up on Pinterest, and remembered this Alexander Henry "Mona Floral" fabric. I think I bought it because it reminded me of my duvet cover ... Read more

Monday Outfit: Olive-Toned Tops

September 16, 2013

Good morning! We had a rip-roaring, thunderous storm yesterday and I almost got hit by lightning, so I'm feeling very grateful that I'm typing this post alive and well and without singed hair. I made a couple of tops for this week's Monday Outfit and zeroed in on shades of green. Let's talk about the oh-so-French inspired polka dot top first. Until I put the black buttons on, it looked remarkably like a mini-Tova (and the contrasting placket fabric is scrap left over from my first Tova ... Read more

Happy Friday + Randomness

September 13, 2013

Happy, happy Friday! The other day K grabbed me and said "Mommy, Mommy, you have to come! Bumble and Slimey died and we're having a funeral!" Apparently a poor bee and snail met an untimely demise (something about tripping and stepping - the details were fuzzy but they assured me it was all an accident). K and her friends had set up a little tombstone for each bug, and though it didn't look like my illustration, that was what popped into my head. After an elaborate ceremony involving a plastic ...
