Tolerations Update: April + May

May 27, 2014

The thing about declaring something publicly is that even if nobody else remembers, I do. I'm talking about my monster list of tolerations, naturally. Those pesky little buggers that would free up so much mental clutter if I'd just hunker down and deal with them. I started bold and strong in January and since then, each consecutive month has seen a marked dwindling of productivity. I clocked in with ZERO tolerations-busting for the month of April, but I'm okay with this. April was an ... Read more

Fabric + Patterns Giveaway! [Closed]

May 26, 2014

Good morning! I hope you had a restorative weekend, friends. I figured that because I've inundated you with photos of K these past couple of weeks, and because I felt the need to take a break from sewing pint-sized clothes while I work on my illustrations, today (and probably next Monday) I have a giveaway! I did a little de-stashing this weekend, and I'm hoping there might be some takers of quilting cotton and I'm throwing in a couple of Butterick patterns. I like these fabrics just ... Read more

Happy Friday + Randomness

May 23, 2014

Happy Friday! A little watercolor painting of a coral today -- I really enjoy drawing sea life and I've been doing a lot of it lately. Speaking of enjoying things, last week while driving into downtown to run an errand early on a Saturday morning, I saw a man swaying his arms to and fro in exaggerated movements as he walked. The traffic light turned red, and I had the chance to observe this youngish man who looked decidedly un-homeless. Medium-build, glasses, sweatshirt and jeans. And massive, ... Read more

Me-Made-May 2014: Week 3

May 22, 2014

Final art for the book is due next week, so I'm devoting every available nanosecond to painting for the next 8 days, which means that I punted all sewing for the interim. Unless my stress level reaches explosive proportions, in which case I will have to engage in some sewing therapy. I know that I was on my soapbox about how productive I've become with Evernote yesterday, but all I was able to do for today was to re-serge the bottom hem of what you see above (the threads have a tendency to snap ... Productivity Tools

May 21, 2014

I used to have a near-photographic memory, and it's one of the main things I miss from my younger days. I rarely had to write down anything and spelling bees were a snap. Then, around my early twenties, I started to forget. Little things here and there evaporated quietly and mysteriously, and I started to delve into all sorts of organizational and productivity systems. I tried the Franklin, the David Allen method, you name it. Nothing really stuck. Eventually, I settled on the age-old and simple ... Read more

I just realized that this week marks 10 years sinc I just realized that this week marks 10 years since my first craft book Sewing Happiness was published. I’ve sewn literally thousands of garments and other textile projects in the last decade! I included a Sashiko primer in the book, and I’m delighted that this humble Japanese embroidery practice has stood the test of time - if anything, I’ve noticed that there’s an ever growing enthusiasm for hand stitching. Fun news: I’ll be teaching a virtual Sashiko workshop for @tatterbluelibrary on Thursday, April 30th at noon ET. Link in profile! Would love to see you there! 💙💙💙💙💙
