Monday Outfit: That ’70s Girl

January 7, 2013

Good morning! How was your weekend? Mine was filled to the gills with events, mostly happy but some sad. The sad news is that my mom returned to Los Angeles yesterday and we are bereft. She generously provided over two weeks of homemade healthy, yummy food and constant entertainment (my mom is hilarious). K said morosely, "It feels so empty without her..." On the happier side, we went to a lovely dinner party, got to catch the King Tut exhibit, and thoroughly enjoyed Lincoln. More to ... Read more

Happy Friday + Art Walk Sneak Peeks

January 4, 2013

Happy Friday! I'm excited for the art walk next week, though I'm woefully behind. But I have a guest to entertain, so reluctantly (oh-so-reluctantly, I tell you) I went to the spa with my mom yesterday. Have you ever been to a Korean spa? For a relatively low set price (the one we went to was $35 per person), you can lounge around in a variety of rooms in varying temperatures from freezing to scorching hot, or soak in herbal infused baths for the whole day. There are supposed to be oodles of ... Read more

Sewing for me

January 3, 2013

Around 2010, I tried to sew clothes for myself. I'd been sewing for K for a while and was feeling pretty confident and not a little cocky. Today, I thought I'd show you some of the things I made back then...and you can laugh with me! I'm still trying to figure out how to set up my tripod and take pictures of myself with a remote, so for this round, I won't be modeling the clothes. Here's the first dress I attempted. It's a Built By Wendy pattern, and I have several of her books. Looking ... Read more

I realize Christmas is over, but…

January 2, 2013

...I forgot to share with you my little goody gift packs I made for the holidays, and felt they deserved a bit of blog love. Using these super cool edible marker pens, I decorated tiny shortbread cookies. The pens have a paint brush-like tip and though they seem to have mixed reviews, I thought they were very easy to use. I whipped up the same recipe as these and also used a gingerbread cookie recipe from here (you can kind of see the gingerbread cookies in the image below). I like to ... Read more

Happy 2013!!!

January 1, 2013

A brand new year! We went to a great New Year's party last night with some new-to-me Latin American traditions (walking around the block with a suitcase for good travel vibes, eating lentils and grapes for prosperity, etc.) and though we had to leave early to get K to bed, it was loads of fun. This morning we will celebrate in traditional Japanese style with mashed sweet potatoes, mochi soup called ozouni, lotus roots and daikon, perhaps even a dash of sake. I have a good feeling about this ... Read more
