Creativity in Small Bites

March 14, 2013

The other day, I stumbled upon an itty bitty shop in one of my favorite neighborhoods in Seattle. The storefront of The Aviary is so diminutive, you might miss it if you blink. It's attached to a hip and happening store called Blackbird, a very Merry Mishap kind of place. On the sandwich board for The Aviary, it said "A Creativity Shop", and in I went. I found a small, but thoughtfully-curated selection of pens, notebooks, art supplies, books and unique paraphernalia to "stimulate right ... Read more

Stilts Illustrations

March 13, 2013

Sometimes, it feels like I'm walking on stilts. A little wobbly, somewhat uncertain, viewing the world from a not-entirely normal perspective. Thrilling too - good things, I think, are afoot. These are illustrations I created a while ago. Digitally done, with scanned in origami paper overlays. They feel spring-like to me. What do you think? ... Read more

Apple Cake

March 12, 2013

I've had budgets on my mind lately. As a single-income family, tightening our financial belt is a necessity and I've been reviewing our expenditures. Food is a huge expense, and when I saw this on Pinterest, I couldn't believe that a family of six could eat on $350 per month. I was inspired and intimidated. That's a lot of planning, friends. This woman should be running our country with that kind of organizational skills. This is somewhat connected to the apple cake I baked, because I ... Read more

Monday Outfit: Teal Bow Top + Dotty Flannel Pants

March 11, 2013

Good morning! How was your weekend? We had one of those great ones with zero scheduling. Lazy, easy, happy. I did spend several hours moving around furniture in our living room in an attempt to make it more efficient for my creative endeavors, only to move it all back to the way it was originally. At least I got to dust behind all the furniture (and whoa, those dust bunnies were a sight to behold). This week's outfit was a hit with K. She's been voicing her concerns that I seem to only ... Happy Friday + Randomness

March 8, 2013

Happy Friday! A random arrows doodle I drew yesterday. And if you were in our house, these are the conversations you would have overheard: M: [to K] Doesn't Mommy look hot, honey?* K: [putting hand on my forehead] Nope. She's normal. *It's awesome to have a husband who makes you feel attractive even after 13 years together (especially when you're sporting an old flannel shirt and bags under your eyes). For the moment, we'll set aside the question of appropriateness in terms of asking ... Read more

I’ve been swimming in nostalgia these past few day I’ve been swimming in nostalgia these past few days, wading through my blog and Pinterest board of the clothes I made for K, who is not so little anymore. what a wild, fun time that was! Remember the old school days of sewing blogs?? I’m back in deadline mode for a number of projects so sewing will have to be put on hold (though maybe I’ll get lucky and sneak in some stitching time). I’m also putting Instagram on hold for the summer, as I do every year. I’ll be back in September with some exciting updates! Have a lovely season, my friends! 💙💙💙💙💙💙
