Stilts Illustrations

Sometimes, it feels like I’m walking on stilts. A little wobbly, somewhat uncertain, viewing the world from a not-entirely normal perspective. Thrilling too – good things, I think, are afoot.

These are illustrations I created a while ago. Digitally done, with scanned in origami paper overlays. They feel spring-like to me. What do you think?

Spring is afoot indeed! The skydiver makes me smile.

Hmmm… “normal” perspective… what’s considered normal these days? I prefer MY “normal” … it’s much more interesting and definitely happier. 🙂

That’s definitely a good way to look at perspectives (no pun intended) Venus! 🙂

Hi Sanae, I just found you via You and Mie and wanted to tell you how utterly smitten I am with your blog. I love the aesthetic and the mix of content and, at the risk of sounding like a non-honors English teacher, you really do have a fantastic voice. Looking forward to following along!

How are you able to work in so many different mediums with such talent? You excel at the tactile with the fabric, embroidery (which I can personally vouch for:), and watercolor, but are also able to do the technological as well. Simply amazing! Love the panda bear sequence:)

You’re making me blush, Lucinda! Thank you for the kind words – I think I’m a bit schizophrenic when it comes to doing things. I have a pretty short attention span so I try everything to see if I like it. Some stick more than others. I’m a horrible driver (with absolutely no sense of direction) and can’t do math to save my life, fyi. 🙂

May 5th is a very special day for me. Not only is May 5th is a very special day for me. Not only is it Japanese children’s day and Cinco de Mayo (a very big deal in Los Angeles where I grew up), it’s also the publication date of my very first book that I wrote and illustrated. Today, Little Kunoichi is 10 YEARS OLD!!! Crazy, crazy. This wee ninja girl completely changed my life. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜 I’m pleased to report that a decade later I’m still in cahoots with @lbfbooks and we have a new book releasing this summer. Little K is back, albeit in a slightly different format…excited to share more soon!! 🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷🥷
