As I've been steadily prepping to sew more clothes for K this week, I started to think about the early days of hand-stitching outfits for my little girl. My first foray was in 2008. I made an orange top without a pattern, and it ended up looking like a scruffy hospital gown. Who knows where it is now, and I wish I still had a photo of it. But I did find an image of the first dress I made (again, without a pattern, and the inside is a screaming mess): I started to buy Japanese craft …

Jellyflats
So, I am tracing and cutting patterns today and in between those tasks, I thought I would make a jelly roll cake. But no. I followed the instructions to the letter, and still the cake cracked all over the place. So instead of a roll, they are flat: ...and I thought maybe I should add some jelly... ...and hey, why not slice them and make them mini layer cakes and style the whole thing a little differently? But no. I'm afraid this wasn't one of my better desserts. It's edible …
KCWC Day 1: leggings
We had such a hectic weekend! In our rush to get from good-bye party to playdate to a wedding in time (M was officiating!) I threw out the cord thingy to download pictures from my camera, and now it is nowhere to be found. I started late last night, and maybe twenty (thirty?) minutes and a cranky serger later, I had two …
Happy Friday + The Sunki Dress: Channeling Madmen
I completed the Sunki dress and is it me, or does it make you think of Jackie O? I love the gold tulips on the inky blue background. It shimmers gloriously and if the dress weren't pint-sized, it threatens to look like something you'd find in your stylish grandmother's closet. I was going to go with a more youthful mustard-y yellow polka dot fabric, but I didn't have nearly enough of the material...but I'm glad I went with this glamorous piece instead. Both the pattern and fabric are from the …
Colder Weather Essentials
Every year around this time as the temperature dips, my skin goes haywire. My hands become chapped and look like sandpaper. My lips appear painfully red, as though seventeen wasps decided to attack me at once. And the worst part is that it feels like I have a million paper cuts on my mouth. Ouch. A little known fact about me is that I am quite the skincare connoisseur. I have tried virtually every product on the market from the mega-luxe to drugstore cheapies. I can wax philosophical for …
