A crafty little atelier in a grey city

Jellyflats

October 9, 2012

So, I am tracing and cutting patterns today and in between those tasks, I thought I would make a jelly roll cake.

But no. I followed the instructions to the letter, and still the cake cracked all over the place.

So instead of a roll, they are flat:

…and I thought maybe I should add some jelly…

…and hey, why not slice them and make them mini layer cakes and style the whole thing a little differently?

But no. I’m afraid this wasn’t one of my better desserts. It’s edible but I think next time, I will have to try this one. The recipe I tried is this one.

I just realized that this week marks 10 years sinc I just realized that this week marks 10 years since my first craft book Sewing Happiness was published. I’ve sewn literally thousands of garments and other textile projects in the last decade! I included a Sashiko primer in the book, and I’m delighted that this humble Japanese embroidery practice has stood the test of time - if anything, I’ve noticed that there’s an ever growing enthusiasm for hand stitching. Fun news: I’ll be teaching a virtual Sashiko workshop for @tatterbluelibrary on Thursday, April 30th at noon ET. Link in profile! Would love to see you there! 💙💙💙💙💙
