Breakfast Bars

July 9, 2013

On most days, I pin willy nilly to my pinterest boards, guided only by the visual sumptuousness of the images. One day I will embark on all the DIYs I've pinned, but for now, I am content with trying out a recipe or two a week. The one that caught my eye this week is the cherry, pistachio & coconut breakfast bars, but I made quite a few modifications to my version. For starters, I didn't use any cherries since I've overloaded on the fruit in Michigan so I'm avoiding them for the time ... Read more

I heart green juice

June 19, 2013

A few weeks ago, I watched this documentary, and it gave me much food for thought (no pun intended).  The film was about the astonishing results of an exclusively green juice diet for up to sixty days. So, feeling the greasy weight of the hamburgers and hotdogs and s'mores consumed on our recent camping trip in my gut, I've jumped on the bandwagon, albeit in small ways (I'm still eating food). I realize I'm not winning any points with the attractiveness of these images, but if you could bottle ... Read more

Fresh Salad

June 11, 2013

These days the topic of gardening keeps coming up, and I keep having to reveal that I have a horribly black thumb. I have repeatedly decimated succulents and philodendrons -- plants supposedly un-killable -- and even cut flowers seem to immediately wilt at my touch. My neighbor B, however, is blessed with the gardening gene and under his gentle hands, flora explode in lushness and ripeness. So when he knocked on my door asking if I'd like some of his lettuce, I swiftly took me and my ... Read more

Lemon Yogurt Cake

June 4, 2013

Whenever I catch a cold, I try to do something that doesn't come naturally to me: rest. This involves watching episode after episode of Project Runway All Stars Season 2 (I also recently finished watching the Great British Sewing Bee - so charming!) and cutting out sewing patterns. I also try to drink lots of fluids, and eat more vegetables. And I hear citrus and vitamin C can do wonders, so I baked a lemon yogurt cake. I'm sure that counts as vitamin C, right? I turned to Ina for the ... Read more

Homemade Fruit Snacks

May 28, 2013

We're big on snacks around here, and I'm always on the lookout for healthy versions. The other day, I came across this recipe for homemade fruit snacks on Pinterest and knew that K would be all over it. I didn't follow the recipe exactly, though, which may account for the more watermelon or deep peachy-pink color that resulted as opposed to the vibrant red of the original. I made a special trip to a natural foods market, but was unsuccessful in procuring the grass-fed gelatin, so I ... Read more

The word that incites terror in most newbie sewing The word that incites terror in most newbie sewing enthusiasts: zippers. Now that I have a few years of sewing under my belt I’m less cowed by them, but there’s something about long, separating zippers that still makes me nervous. I powered through, however, and made this versatile twill hooded jacket originating from a @patterncouture_ zip-up hoodie pattern meant for knit fabrics that I modified a lot. I blogged about it! Link in bio if you’d like to see the different versions I created.

To skip zippers altogether and make a truly summery garment, swipe and check out my NEW @creativebug Tiered Dress class (link also in bio!). Back to sewing more hot weather stuff because I’m going to Japan for a special trip next week! 🇯🇵🇯🇵
