Happy Friday, everyone! What a good week it's been. I taught ceramics to kindergartners yesterday, and they are the best. I love how there's no inhibition to ask for help, how they are all naturally brilliant artists. I say, "make an animal" or "create a story with just symbols and images" and there is no shortage of inspiration and they dive in with gusto. Not an iota of hesitation. So great. I have much to learn from these five-year-olds. My art show is wrapping up next week! I made ... Read more
Happy Friday + Bouquets for you
Happy Friday! I know they're silly, but I like writing haikus so they will be my little Friday ritual...you know how I cherish routines. I saw the white anemones at the grocery store (!) and they were so pretty I couldn't resist. These black-centered anemones are apparently popular wedding flowers, and I can see why. I am a big fan of chic and minimal. I noticed that I had an unwitting theme of multiple versions going on this week: two tunics and half-leggings, a cupcake-off, different ... Read more
Scratch Off Paint – Part Deux
Happy Valentine's Day! I hope you are celebrating this day of amor with plenty of chocolate and all manners of sweetness. I am nothing if not persistent, and I finally got the scratch off paint to work (see here for the first attempt gone wrong). They are so so fun. I added just a couple of drops, three layers of silver acrylic on top of clear packing tape adhered to parchment ... Read more
Three Ps for K
I realize that I'm milking this Valentine's theme for all it's worth, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm as sappy as they come. I recently found myself sobbing at the end of the movie Brave and I think K may have been embarrassed of me... So, I had made a fleeting mention of making a tipi for K back in the, oh, pre-Christmas historic era. And then time got away from me as it so often does, and I sneakily declared that I would make it for Valentine's. I have now punted it for her birthday ... Read more
DIY Fail: Scratch-off paint
Sometimes I get obsessed with an idea and have to try it immediately. I found this tutorial on scratch-off paint via Pinterest and thought it would make super sweet Valentine's cards. I researched a few other tutorials and was confident that I came up with the easiest way to do it. It did not go well. Exhibit A - the paint got lumpy and despite 10 layers, it did not cover the hidden message (I was going for cheap laughs and had "Clean your room" on one of them for K): Exhibit B - the ... Read more
