Jellyflats

October 9, 2012

So, I am tracing and cutting patterns today and in between those tasks, I thought I would make a jelly roll cake. But no. I followed the instructions to the letter, and still the cake cracked all over the place. So instead of a roll, they are flat: ...and I thought maybe I should add some jelly... ...and hey, why not slice them and make them mini layer cakes and style the whole thing a little differently? But no. I'm afraid this wasn't one of my better desserts. It's edible ... Read more

KCWC Day 1: leggings

October 8, 2012

We had such a hectic weekend! In our rush to get from good-bye party to playdate to a wedding in time (M was officiating!) I threw out the cord thingy to download pictures from my camera, and now it is nowhere to be found. Hence, there will be no photographic evidence of my KCWC participation until said cord is located...I'm easing in with a super easy pattern anyway: Figgy's Sunki leggings. I started late last night, and maybe twenty (thirty?) minutes and a cranky serger later, I had two ... Read more

Happy Friday + The Sunki Dress: Channeling Madmen

October 5, 2012

I completed the Sunki dress and is it me, or does it make you think of Jackie O? I love the gold tulips on the inky blue background. It shimmers gloriously and if the dress weren't pint-sized, it threatens to look like something you'd find in your stylish grandmother's closet. I was going to go with a more youthful mustard-y yellow polka dot fabric, but I didn't have nearly enough of the material...but I'm glad I went with this glamorous piece instead. Both the pattern and fabric are from the ... Read more

Colder Weather Essentials

October 4, 2012

Every year around this time as the temperature dips, my skin goes haywire. My hands become chapped and look like sandpaper. My lips appear painfully red, as though seventeen wasps decided to attack me at once. And the worst part is that it feels like I have a million paper cuts on my mouth. Ouch. A little known fact about me is that I am quite the skincare connoisseur. I have tried virtually every product on the market from the mega-luxe to drugstore cheapies. I can wax philosophical for ... A is for…

October 3, 2012

Hmmm....what could these be? They're tiny, with a rich-yet-not-too-sweet crust, and they taste like autumn. Why, Apple Pie Cookies, of course! Deb of Smitten Kitchen never disappoints and these are a stroke of brilliance. The recipe was a bit labor-intensive for this novice cook, and my batch came out more rustic and shabby than hers, but oh, they are delicious. Miniature pies are really what they are, and I am all about miniature edibles. And because they're itty-bitty, I ate ... Read more
