Guest Post: An of StraightGrain

June 24, 2013

Good morning, friends! First up for the fave series is quite the phenomenon: An of StraightGrain. Her blog is but a year old, but this maven of Belgian Style is all over Pinterest and has a loyal and rapidly increasing following. I was lucky enough to be part of her Belgian Style Series a few weeks ago, which was all sorts of fun. The series is just about to end, but it's a definite must-see if you haven't been following already! An is witty and clever and oh-so-talented at creating adorable ... Read more

Happy Friday + Randomness

June 21, 2013

Happy Friday! So, in a couple of days, I'll be on the plane to kick off my vacation (armed with my self-sewn wardrobe!), and in my absence so as not to leave you high and dry, some lovely blogger friends have generously agreed to pinch hit all of next week with guest posts. They'll be featuring some of the favorite things they've made to date, and you know that with these awesome ladies, their round-ups are going to be good. I'm calling this last-minute, casual series, "These are a few of my ... Read more

Sewing for Me: Coral Stripes, Lace + Geometric

June 20, 2013

A couple of days ago, I made a muslin for a pair of sailor pants, and it was huge. And after reading through the directions, I realized that it would take more time than I have available, so I made a couple more knit tops instead. It was a good move, because I love them so much. Let's talk about the kimono top first. I made this in a black stripey jersey knit a few years ago, and mentioned its dismal craftsmanship here. Despite the seams falling apart, I wear the black top frequently and ... Read more

I heart green juice

June 19, 2013

A few weeks ago, I watched this documentary, and it gave me much food for thought (no pun intended).  The film was about the astonishing results of an exclusively green juice diet for up to sixty days. So, feeling the greasy weight of the hamburgers and hotdogs and s'mores consumed on our recent camping trip in my gut, I've jumped on the bandwagon, albeit in small ways (I'm still eating food). I realize I'm not winning any points with the attractiveness of these images, but if you could bottle ... Read more

When We Were Young Part 2

June 18, 2013

Today, I'm guest posting over at sewpony for the fantastic series, When We Were Young. The post will be up on sewpony later this afternoon (around 5pm US PST time), so I hope you'll check it out! Here's the image that inspired my sewing...this is me, at age three-ish: It was very very hard to decide on which ones to make. Below are a few of the other images my mom sent over, and though it's tricky to see the details for some of them, I think they're all so sweet... I really want to try ... Read more

Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your loved ones! Happy Thanksgiving to you and all your loved ones! I’m spending time with family in the Midwest and there is much to be grateful for, not the least of which is the slower pace this week. Sending big hugs to you! 🧡🧡🧡🧡 Incidentally, this ikebana floral arrangement is one of the illustrations that didn’t make it into my book SHIBUI — I painted a lot of extra illos!
