Happy Friday! Thank you for all the kind comments about both the advent calendar and holiday tags! I am happiest making things, and wish more hours could be added to each day. Which reminds me, I just read this book and I have to tell you, I zipped through it. It’s a coming-of age story about a girl growing up in a future in which each day starts to grow longer and longer as the earth’s rotation slows.ย So good.
In other news, my cough is still relentless. I’m prone to bronchial infections and I haven’t even been able to read bedtime stories for K these last few weeks. One of the benefits of creating blog posts is that no talking is required. I was sitting in a coffee shop the other day working on a post, and a woman said to me, “You have one of those non-stop coughs too, huh?” And then we coughed like crazy simultaneously.

Not a lot of takers for the magnet kit giveaway, but I think this might have been my favorite group of answers to my giveaway questions to date. As a show of gratitude for taking the time to answer so thoughtfully and for brightening my outlook on humankind, I’m sending everyone who answered the question a kit. It will take me a little time to assemble them all, but I will ship ’em out by the end of next week and will be emailing the recipients shortly.

Overheard K telling my mom the other day:
“Ba-chan, Seattle is really a great place. You can get ANYTHING here. Things from Japan, France, Swedish…and Indiana*!”
*M is from Indiana, and apparently to K, it’s as exotic as other international locales.

Sweet, wonderful Sanae, thank you for sending out your magnet kits to all who answered! We are very lucky to be recipients of your generous heart!
I hope the smell of the Douglas fir tree will soothe your cough. I so love the smell of a real tree on christmas! A real tree and real candles on the tree that is my childhood christmas! Happy weekend!

It’s my favorite part of Christmas, the tree-scented air. Real candles must have been so beautiful! I will be sending out emails for the magnet kit some time this weekend! xo!

I’m so sorry I let my laziness stop me from sharing my story of kindness. If you don’t mind hearing about it now, may I share it with you? (I don’t need the giveaway).
About 14 years ago, I was living in Northern Territory and just came out from a nasty divorce. I was a wreck, lost and unsure of my next move. My ex’s boss at the time, whom I acquainted, asked me if I wanted to visit Melbourne so he could show me around (much to my surprise). To give you an idea, NT locates in northern part of Australia, and Melbourne locates in south eastern. It is about 8 hours flight.
He paid for my airfare and let me stay with his family during my visit. On top of that, his Melbourne home was a 2 BR house; he, his wife and his 2 daughters slept in one room. And they sacrificed the other room. Like he promised, he showed me Melbourne, paid for my meal etc.
At the end of my trip, I asked him why he did all this for me. His reply was that, he wanted to show me that there are opportunity for me out there and I don’t have to be stuck in a little town wasting my potential. After the trip, I relocated to Melbourne, enrolled into a reputable university and graduated a few years later. I met my husband and now have 2 daughters and a baby on the way. Sadly, I lost touch with Jimmy, but he is always in my thoughts as someone who believes in me and I forever am grateful for his kindness.

What a wonderful story, Lulita! We need more people like Jimmy in this world – so inspiring! Thank you for sharing, it made my day. ๐

Love today’s illustration. Also, it’s so sweet of you to send all the commenters magnets! I didn’t enter because I have nowhere to stick the magnets! Our fridge has one of those covers that matches the cupboards. But, I loved reading your story, and am so glad things turned out okay for you. And, you’re right, the comments were heart-warming and really touching to read. Gives a bit of hope in humanity.
sanae says
Thanks Adri, and yes, the stories were all affirming in the best possible way!

Your giveaway theme was heartwarming, and what an uplifting, positive way to spread some love in this world:) Stories of kindness are a perfect antidote to all the sad and horrible stories we hear all too often. Each one of us has experienced kindnesses in our life, and throughout the week I found myself reflecting on your question often. That alone was a wonderful exercise – so thank you!
I”m so sorry to read that your cough continues to plague you! May your mom’s TLC help to speed the healing and soon you’ll be able to read to K again:)

I miss being able to read to my little K! I’m afraid I have full-blown bronchitis at this point, but I shouldn’t complain because I AM getting the royal treatment from my mom. I’ve been thinking so much about kindness this past week too, and it really is a wonderful exercise!
