A crafty little atelier in a grey city

Happy Friday + Randomness

March 29, 2013

Happy Friday! I may be jinxing things to write this, but the server mayhem may be resolved! M tells me that in terms of server space, I've basically gone from hovel/shanty to palatial digs. Nice. Small things: the other day I was browsing through the Elliot Bay Book Company and discovered their little cafe where I decided to hunker down with a cup of au lait and a warm mini-loaf of potato bread. I was feeling a bit blue and under the weather, as it happens in life sometimes, and I wanted to ... Read more

Happy Friday + Randomness

March 22, 2013

Happy Friday! The other day, as I walked K and her friend S to school in drizzly weather, I listened to their conversation. S: What if it rained food instead of water? K: I would want it to rain ice cream. S: I'd want sushi. What followed was an impassioned discussion about the merits and demerits of the two. I heard words like "sticky", "yummy", "smelly", "melty" and -- inexplicably -- "itchy". ******************************************************************************* The ... Read more

Happy Friday + Randomness

March 15, 2013

Happy Friday! Every day, K makes me laugh. I can't possibly record every single utterance, but these were my faves this week: K: I'm so into bugs right now. Me: Oh yeah? K: Yeah, I love books with pictures of bugs with information and all that stuff. Chapter books are so last season ago. ******************************************************************************** K: Mommy, I really want an asteroid. A fluffy one shaped like a ... Read more

Happy 2013!!!

January 1, 2013

A brand new year! We went to a great New Year's party last night with some new-to-me Latin American traditions (walking around the block with a suitcase for good travel vibes, eating lentils and grapes for prosperity, etc.) and though we had to leave early to get K to bed, it was loads of fun. This morning we will celebrate in traditional Japanese style with mashed sweet potatoes, mochi soup called ozouni, lotus roots and daikon, perhaps even a dash of sake. I have a good feeling about this ... Read more

Animal Mask Doodles

October 25, 2012

A quiet day. A little doodling, a little sewing, a little volunteering (made endless amounts of die-cut letters at K's school, which I found strangely satisfying). I have animal masks on the mind and am thinking of ways to incorporate fabric in a different way...perhaps I'll have something to show you next week. Exciting news: an art show for January 2013 is in the works, for which I'll share details as it gets closer. Fun fun fun. Busy busy busy. ... Read more

Can you believe I’ve been creating these printable tags for over 10 years?? This year I included outtake illustrations from my book SHIBUI so these tags and bookmarks could be used for gifts all year round. I also painted a few holiday-ish ones too! Enjoy, and have a lovely and celebratory season! I’m taking my usual winter social media break, and I’ll see you back here in 2026 🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡🧡
