KCW Spring – The End (part 2)

Pre-KCW | Day 1 | Days 2 + 3 | Days 4 + 5 | Days 6 + 7

Done!!! All told, I made 13 items if I include the pre-KCW tunics which I think should count, don’t you? 1 dress, 3 coats/outerwear, 3 tops, 3 tunics, 2 pairs of shorts and a pair of capri pants. Not too shabby, I must say. You’ll notice that I didn’t get too wild with color other than the long cardigan — I had this idea of creating a “collection” if you will, so that things could be mixed and matched. I didn’t get around to making one more dress, a top and a skirt that would have made the mix’n’match so much livelier, but this is a sampling of what I was going for:

Left to her own devices, this is the combination K would throw together:

It was fun fun fun, and I’m so excited that KCW is seasonal now! I’ve been so immersed in sewing/prepping that I haven’t had a chance to see a lot of people’s creations but will be doing so over the next few days. If you participated, I hope you had fun too!

For the finale, I planned to do a pretty photo collage of outtakes, but then I decided to do something a little different. I try really hard to put forth the best photos I can when I create these posts, but anyone who takes pictures of kids knows that more often than not, things don’t go so smoothly. My child says the darnedest things during our photo shoots and quite frequently she refuses to cooperate or inadvertently strikes surprising poses. Keepin’ it real, folks. Here are some quotes and blooper shots – maybe it’s just me, but they make me laugh:

  1. bwahahaaa! I am laughing at those outtakes! Hilarious! I always get gems like that, too. I am LOVING all that you made, that little grey top-fabulous!

  2. First, I wish I had an ounce of your computer graphics knowledge. Secondly, out takes are hilarious. My daughter does the same thing. Your clothes are amazing as usual.

    1. Kids are such a riot – glad to know that my crazy little girl is in good company! And thanks for the graphics props – I’ve never been all that great at graphic design and I can see that my spacing is all off, but it does the job, I think 🙂

  3. Brilliant!! Love the outfits you made, and the idea to mix and match. The outtakes are so funny, kids are wonderful!

  4. These outtakes are awesome – the Gumby one made me laugh out loud! Your K is such a delight:)
Amazing outfits this week – love how you worked your computer magic and displayed them in that neat format. A true snapshot of your style – love it!

    1. Right?? That gumby comment made my camera shake like crazy from laughing so hard I can’t believe I got any clear shots!

  5. Hahaha…K’s photos on this post are hilarious! Love all you sewed. These collections give me some inspirations, you are hero! Thank you, Sanae!

  6. i love the collection! beautiful! i had similar aspirations, but ended up with many bits of randomness instead. there is something particularly wonderful about pairing a dainty nani iro tunic with a be-sharktoothed hoodie…

    1. I think all your clothes look great together, Ashley! And yes, I’m juxtaposing hard and soft, as they say on project runway 🙂

  7. dear Sanae, i’m so impressed i’m . . . depressed! i’m a lesser mummy for sure!
    i particularly love the days 4 + 5 combo
and, btw, i know all about those poses:)

    1. Oh no! Don’t be depressed, Xenia! I have two words for you, my dear, two words: mouse house. That is brilliance! 🙂

  8. All your creations are so awesome! I love that you can mix and match so many of the pieces. Your out takes are hilarious – i have similar ones with my own little lady! The gumby comment literally made me laugh out loud! Kids seriously say the darnedest things!

    1. The gumby comment is pretty classic – what followed was a series of contortions with gumby and the horse (what was its name?) that could, um, be interpreted as not so kid-friendly.

    1. Thanks so much, Ashleigh! The Japanese sewing books are typically written entirely in Japanese but there are a few translated to English and/or French. The awesome Cherie did a series a little while ago on demystifying the books (I participated with a guest post) – you should check it out!

  9. crazy amount of clothes! and they all look great together. Sometimes I feel like ALL the shots I get of my kids end up looking like outtakes. haha.

  10. I am in awe of your KCW output! So stylish! So charming! So many pieces! Love your blog — I just found you via Straight-Grain. You have now been added to my “Creative Blogs” Bookmark list!
