Cough Cough

As I’m typing this, I hear the muffled yet constant coughing from K’s room.

Still sick. She insisted that she was all better and braved the cold and wind and rain, parading around with friends on Halloween night. Came home with her voice hoarse and cheeks rouged, fingers icy. She gleefully counted her candy: 80 pieces (AND I ate sooo many while trick-or-treating, Mama!). Collapsed in a coughing fit. All that candy was probably not wise.

So today (and maybe tomorrow and the day after) is all about herbal tea with honey and reading books and burrowing into bed and extra hugs.

Cough cough. Oh. I hear her…singing? Better check on her.

This is the part about autumn that I always forget: the flurry of fever and germs and little sniffling people. But the light is pretty this time of year and I find it endearing how she gets so engrossed in books that she forgets to eat.

I fought a good battle, but I’m toting a box of tissues with me everywhere now too…

P.S. Furoku 8 has gone out! Please let me know if you have any issues.

    1. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been hit by the cough too, Evie! K’s a lot better, thank goodness. Hot water with lemon and honey helped a lot!

    1. Thanks Greta! K’s on the mend though now I’m not so hot…the good news is that we’re both getting a lot of much-needed downtime!

  1. I’m with you K. I’ve been coughing like a consumptive seal for about five days now. Only my woes are amplified by a household of healthy and infuriating children and a pelvic floor that can no longer cope so well with the rigours of coughs that are off the Richter scale.
    Funny, when it’s not you.
    Get well soon,
    Love, S xx

    1. Holy cow, I laughed so hard while reading that, Shelley! Thank you!! K’s cough has wormed its way into my throat and I’ve been out of commission for most of the day today – that laugh did me good! 🙂

  2. coughs here too!:( T’is the season, I suppose. My chiropractor just sent out a pre-Halloween email that said for every tsp of sugar ingested, your immune system is compromised for 5 hours. So I guess it makes sense that all the candy-inhaling would be a factor. And sadly, I suppose chocolate would be included in that. Sorry that both of you are under the weather, but love the way you’re enduring it with books, tea and quiet time. Get well soon!

    1. Oh no!! Folks are dropping like flies from this illness that’s going around. The factoid about the sugar is fascinating and frightening, Lucinda! K won’t recover for weeks!!! 😉 She’s actually on the mend, but we tested out sending her to school today and she’s now loudly voicing the need to stay home again tomorrow because she “still feels yucky”. Sigh. We shall see…
