Happy Friday + Randomness + Giveaway Winner

Happy Friday! Have I told you that pretty packaging makes me weak at the knees? I’m one of those annoying people who will decant detergent from its original ugly jug into a much more visually pleasing glass container. So yes, beautiful products and well-designed packaging will always captivate me. Case in point: these Merchant & Mills sewing paraphernalia are right up my alley with their minimalistic and simple, yet graphic look. The vintage touch is also pulling at my heart strings. In fact, I love the packaging so much that I haven’t had the heart to open these babies. These are from one of my favorite stores, and they make me happy.

K’s best friend A travels frequently (she recently jaunted to Paris, lucky duck) and always sends K a postcard. I absolutely loved this one that arrived this week. A and her family went on a road trip to Minnesota and sent this little gem:

The winner of the summery fruit fabric giveaway is #62, Mandy! She said,

“I love Traverse City! We have a summer cabin just north in Lake Leelanau. Most beautiful place on earth I think. Oh and how I wish I could have some cherries right now.

As a child I spent many hours playing with femo, legoes, building forts and teepees, swimming, and climbing trees. Those were the days…”

Such fun memories (though I’m not sure what femo is — is it a kind of clay?), and what a coincidence!! Lake Leelanau is where I went in Michigan. It really is beautiful there. You should have already received an email from me, Mandy. Congrats!

Well friends, I hope you have wonderful plans for the weekend. I have a busy one ahead of me full of prepping and organizing for some cool projects, and will be back Monday to share an outfit! For now, a haiku:

Kids Clothes Week Summer
The first one ever, hooray!
Are you in or out*?

*I am sort of in…I went overboard for KCW Spring so this time, I think I will tone it down quite a bit. After all, K would be a contender for the Most Abundant Wardrobe Award if there was such a thing…

  1. Lol, I bought those scissors and needles while at Lucca. I loved all the black pins they had, too, so beautiful! You should open the scissors, they’re lovely, though mine seem to need a shot of wd40 or something, they’re a bit squeaky.

    Happy weekend to you too!

  2. Oh those goodies from Merchant & Mills are beautiful!! I can understand why you don’t want to open them. That postcard is a gem! is very nice to receive letters and postcards in this “internet era”, nothing is more special than words on paper.
I’m in for KCW, let’ see how much I manage to make next week, doing some prep today! Have a good weekend Sanae!

    1. Fun, can’t wait to see what beautiful clothes you make, Maria! I’m going to keep it simple this round and really see how much I can get done with an hour a day!

  3. I totally understand your penchant for beautiful packaging – a cleverly designed package/label makes my heart beat just a tiny beat faster:)
I’m happy/sad that KCW summer edition is next week: happy because there’s so much fun eye candy to draw inspiration from, but sad because of course it’s the week we’re on vacation and there’s no way I’ll be able to convince my husband to take the sewing machine/iron. So some simply hand sewing will have to do. Also will not have internet access so I will live a very deprived week indeed. Realistically, probably good for me:) Eager to see what you’ve created when I get back!

    1. Oooh, vacation! Where to? I will miss you and your sweet comments, but I hope you have a fabulous time, Lucinda! I hardly had any internet access while in Michigan and it was blissful to be unplugged. These days I’m trying to figure out ways to wean myself off of the ipad…Happy vacation!

  4. Oh, I love Merchant & Mills! I ordered their dress shirt pattern and it arrived in a beautiful cardboard tube. I kept it (and also have the cardboard pattern hung up by the little hook it came with) and it makes my small living-sewing room (I should say SEWING-living-room ;-)…) look like a real studio!
And I am very glad you are not a super-human seamstress who “whips up things at night”! It makes my inability to do that feel very normal 🙂
A beautiful weekend to a very human Sanae!

    1. So cool, Ute – I need to check out their patterns! And I am nowhere near super-human, my dear. In fact, I spent all day today with tech support because my server was down (again!) and I felt like a sub-human the whole time…
