This week, I planned on making a skirt and realized that I should take inventory of what I actually have in my closet. It turns out I own six skirts, five of which I've made and none of which I wear regularly. Instead of jumping into sewing another skirt I might not wear, I thought I ought to see if any of them are worth keeping. Out of all the skirts, this one has gotten the most wear, but only during the fall/winter season. I made it a few years ago, using some wool tweed from my mom, …

Sewing for Me: Tova 2.0
The first day of school went very smoothly yesterday and while K filled her brain with knowledge, I finished up my second Wiksten Tova. As I happily sewed, I remembered how when I was a corporate drone, a colleague once told me that I always looked comfortable yet stylish. It was really one of the few nice things that happened to me while I worked there -- I was so flattered and that has become my sartorial mantra though I don't consistently succeed: comfort without sacrificing a sense of style. …
Sewing for Me: So-So Tees (it’s about the scarf, really)
Whenever I work on putting these Thursday outfit posts together, I feel very self-conscious and sort of ridiculous as I go through dozens and dozens of pictures of myself. I wish I could be blasé, but I'm really not. It's so very out of character for me to do this. The other night a friend invited me to an event and I ran into someone who told me she reads my blog. Monday Outfit: Mini Me Style
Good morning! How was your weekend? We've had a relaxing one full of bike-riding and now we're counting down the days until school starts on September 4th... With that in mind, this week I have a double-feature! Be warned, there are endless photos coming up. But first, let me back up a bit and start from the beginning. A few weeks ago, sweet Yeka of Lollipop Garden Grafts contacted me to see if I would be interested in a sew-along - I'm always up for a fun sew-along, so I heartily …
Sewing for Me: Tova 1.0
Having gotten over my reluctance to sew the same patterns as everyone else with the Washi, I enthusiastically jumped into trying yet another highly-acclaimed and popular pattern: the Tova Top. There's so much to rave about this pattern. The pieces are superbly drafted, the instruction are very clear, and other than the inset portion which can get tricky at the corners, it's a very easy top to sew up. This has been on my to-sew list forever and I had high hopes of a perfect fit with little to …
