Happy, happy Friday! The other day K grabbed me and said "Mommy, Mommy, you have to come! Bumble and Slimey died and we're having a funeral!" Apparently a poor bee and snail met an untimely demise (something about tripping and stepping - the details were fuzzy but they assured me it was all an accident). K and her friends had set up a little tombstone for each bug, and though it didn't look like my illustration, that was what popped into my head. After an elaborate ceremony involving a plastic ... Good Food
A couple of months ago, I talked about my newfound love of green juice. I'm happy to report that I've been imbibing chock-full of vitamins and nutrients in liquid form every day for the past seventy days, and I tell you, it's changed my life. I've even got M and K drinking the stuff, and we feel so much healthier. On the rare days I can't start off my day with a tall glass of green juice, I can tell a major difference in my mood and physical well-being. I've got a whole system down and keep a ... Read more
Happy Friday + Randomness
Happy Friday! So for today, I originally planned on promoting the class I'll be teaching at Drygoods to get more people signed up, but just as I finished the post, Keli contacted me with the great news that it's sold out (happy dance). I'll be teaching how to make the quintessential Japanese-style tunic, of which I've made many. Above is an illo of the ones I've made to date and I'm sewing more as I type this. Very, very excited. And more good news: I will be teaching another class shortly after ... Read more
Dancing Sparrows
This watercolor painting I did was inspired by a Japanese folktale. The story is about an old man married to a less-than-nice woman, and how she maliciously hurts his pet sparrow one day (cuts out its tongue!), causing the sparrow to fly away. When the old man goes in search for the bird, he discovers that the sparrow -- despite its tonguelessness -- can talk, and has a family in the woods that entertain the old man with food, drink and dancing. There is a moral about greed and ... Read more
Happy Friday + Randomness
Happy Friday, my lovely friends! I had hoped to be much more productive this week with K in camp (which has been so fantastic - art! glass museum and ceramics studio visits! 3-D movies!), but I've mysteriously frittered away time and now I'll be doing "Mama camp" at K's request for the remainder of summer. Postings might get spotty the next couple of weeks, but I will do my best to stick to my regular programming! Some exciting news: I'm teaching a sewing class! I like to call Keli, the owner ...
