Good morning! Yesterday was K’s birthday party, and as far as I’m concerned, it was a smashing success. Of course, you can’t go wrong with slip n slides and epic water balloon fights, so I can’t take a whole lot of credit for the success. I was also pretty good about keeping it low maintenance and didn’t go all DIY crazy as I have in the past — I’ll show you a couple of things I did make later this week, but everything else was store-bought and easy-peasy.
Today, however, is Monday, and I would like to introduce you to “Hannah”. The incredibly loved American Girl doll, whose hair K can’t stop brushing.
Does this fabric look at all familiar? Probably not, because I made a bubble dress for K months and months ago…It was one of the first outfits that I made when I embarked on my mission to sew all of K’s clothes. She wore it to the first day of school last year, and because of that, it’s extra sentimental for me.
I didn’t make this miniaturized version of the dress. A few days ago, my mom asked me for all my scrap fabric, and before I knew it she had created an entire wardrobe for little Hannah. I probably don’t even need to mention that K is over the moon.
Many of you kindly comment that I’m prolific with my sewing, but I’m a veritable sloth compared to my mom. Behold, in something like two days, my mom made this (except for the blue sweater on the right. That was from a friend):

And more. All of these teeny tiny clothes! I want to do a proper post to feature all the mini outfits because they are amazing. I mean, she even made matching headbands for a lot of the dresses! She kills me. I’ll show you her wondrous creations tomorrow, so stay tuned! Oh, we miss my mom so so much….

Right? She’s a machine, my mother. And we’re not talking just sewing because she knitted a bunch of stuff too!!

My mom is extraordinary! And I love that I have this little blog space to document these types of creations. Otherwise, in a few weeks, the mini clothes will be misplaced, torn, etc. etc without any visual records. 🙂
Amazing creations by your mom! Last time, I was tempted to buy the book because of bubble dress but after I think about ironing, I cancel it. Did you spend much time to iron this style of dress to keep it bubbling?
Hi Yeka! I haven’t had to iron the bubble dress at all! It would depend on the fabric you use though – if this was linen, the ironing would be a nightmare, but I used a crisp yet textured cotton, and the shape has held up nicely.
We all want your mom to be our mom!:) I’m especially impressed as I have sewn a fair number of AG doll clothes myself, and hate the fiddliness of them – everything so small! Good to know the prolific apple doesn’t fall far from the tree:)

your mom seems so wonderful–i love the obvious affection with which you refer to her. reading about the 100 dresses (which was maybe more like 300 given her productivity) totally hooked me all those months ago :). american girl dolls are something special! i used to have elaborate christmas and birthday parties for mine with mini trees, mini gifts, mini party hats, the whole deal. k might really enjoy learning to make some clothes for hannah herself!
Thanks, Ashley! My mom and I are very close and I’ve been (unsuccessfully) trying to convince her to move to Seattle for years. And yep, the AG doll is proving to have been an excellent gift. K loves her to death! Doll clothes sewing lessons are definitely in the horizon!
The matching headbands are really sending me over the edge. Although one of the best parts of this post was realizing that I haven’t ever gone through the archives! Love that bubble dress. I am impressed with your Mom….the clothes really do make the doll!

this is awesome. Sweaters, Dresses, Blouses, Frocks, it’s incredible. I made my daughter some doll clothes because i hated the sugary pink ones that came with the doll and i know how fiddly this stuff is. Comliments for the seamstress. Did she sews clothes for herself or for you nowadays?
Those Doll clothes are amazing and reminds my of my childhood. I grew up in east-germany and without much toys. My friends and i got self-made doll-Clothes every christmas as a present, made from our moms and along with repaired and new painetd doll-beds and other stuff. Repurposing was big those days…

My mom tends to mostly knit these days because I sew a lot, but when she was younger, she used to make very cool clothes for herself! 🙂
That’s so lovely. My grandmother used to make me dolls clothes from the scraps of clothes that my mum made me. I don’t have my old clothes any more – but I still have the dolls dresses! And now my little girl plays with them, lovely little scraps that make me think of my lovely grandmother and my little-girl-dresses 30plus years ago. They’re like a ‘memory’ box of my childhood.
