Sewing for Me: Scoop Tops

June 6, 2013

Thank you for the well wishes! I'm doing much much better, though I'm operating on four hours of sleep because K had a nightmare last night. Poor thing. Anyway, it all turned out just fine and I have some handmade clothes to share with you. The very cool Kristin of Skirt as Top offered up a free pattern, and of course I couldn't pass up a chance to try out her scoop top. That Kristin, she's so good. This is such a fast and satisfying project, I think everyone should have a scoop top in ... Read more

Giveaway! Swimwear Fabric + Clear Elastic [CLOSED]

June 5, 2013

Two weeks in a row of giveaways! I heard the call for swimwear fabric, and as the possessor of plenitude, I'm feeling the need to share. For this giveaway, I have that sumptuous aqua stripes I used for K's swimsuit and an equally cute pink/orange/yellow stripey fabric. Both seem to contain spandex and/or lycra and are just shy of a yard each, but plenty to make a kid-sized swimsuit or two, depending on how little your kiddo is. You could also squeeze out an adult-sized bikini or speedos ... Read more

Lemon Yogurt Cake

June 4, 2013

Whenever I catch a cold, I try to do something that doesn't come naturally to me: rest. This involves watching episode after episode of Project Runway All Stars Season 2 (I also recently finished watching the Great British Sewing Bee - so charming!) and cutting out sewing patterns. I also try to drink lots of fluids, and eat more vegetables. And I hear citrus and vitamin C can do wonders, so I baked a lemon yogurt cake. I'm sure that counts as vitamin C, right? I turned to Ina for the ... Read more

Monday Outfit: Swimsuit Season

June 3, 2013

Good morning! Friends, I am under the weather. The sniffles turned into a full-blown head cold, which probably explains why I had so much trouble with this super straightforward swimsuit pattern from peek-a-boo. What a great pattern! I love that the size range is 3 months to 12 years, which is fantastic because I'll definitely be making this again and again. The ruching on the side is adorable, and it's fully lined. The original design also has little side bows, but I left them off. K ... Read more

Happy Friday + Randomness

May 31, 2013

Happy Friday! Friends, the giveaway comments are awesome. I am having so much fun reading everyone's unique/secret talents! I can't wait to do a round-up of my faves when I announce the winner next week! On another note, above is my tentative plan for my (mostly) handmade vacation mini-wardrobe, scrawled in my sketchbook. For travel and comfort purposes, it makes the most sense to keep the garments to knits, and being me, there will be a lot of solids and stripes. Maybe some ... Read more
