Another Drygoods Class!

Friends, I’m so excited to be teaching another class at my favorite fabric store/sewing studio! This time, we’re focusing on baby outfits, and I’m certain that everyone needs to make an adorable pinafore and pair of bloomers at some point. Right? I think these would make fabulous holiday gifts as well as gifts for expectant parents any time of the year.

I think what’s most thrilling for me is that these are adapted from Japanese patterns but modified heavily by me, so they are, in essence, my own patterns. I worked and re-worked the patterns to really simplify them, but the class will include tips and tricks on working with Japanese sewing books as well. ย The pinafore top can be adjusted to fit sizes approximately 6 months to 18 months (if the 18-month-old is quite slim), and is fully lined.

It’s another all-day workshop on December 8th, so I’ll be doing quite a bit to prepare for the class. I was so very lucky with my first class (awesome people! super fun!) and it seemed like an auspicious beginning. Holiday times are tricky though, so I’ve got my fingers crossed that the class will actually happen…

P.S. If you’re curious about the fabrics I used for the above (I’ve had all of these in my stash forever):

Grey=Nani Iro Peaceful Cooing in double-gauze
Red/Cream/Aqua Watercolor=Nani Iro Linen/Cotton
Brown Bears=Kokka Linen/Cotton
White with black polka dots=Cotton from JoAnn’s
Orange Stripes=Linen/Cotton
Off-White bloomers=Linen/Rayon blend

  1. This is one of those “happy for you, but sad for me” moments: SO excited for you that you are not only teaching another class, but that you’re using (basically) your own patterns! And they’re adorable to boot – remaining true to your awesome design aesthetic while also making them baby-cute.
But then there’s the sad me that feels sad to miss out on such an awesome class:( Right now I wish we still lived in Vancouver so I could drive down for the day. I wish you the very best of luck with the next class and know that it will again be a resounding success!

    1. Thank you Lucinda! I probably shouldn’t feel so proud about simply modifying a couple of patterns, but hey, this is tremendous progress for me ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Oh those lucky people who can take your sewing class! I am jealous! I leave about as far away from Seattle as I possibly can and still be in the U.S. Draw a line from Seattle to the southeastern corner and there I am. I hope Seattle realizes what a treasure they have there in learning from you! Off to pout for the rest of the day.

    1. Oh, I’m so curious where the farthest point from Seattle is – are you in Florida? Thanks for the sweet words, Karen!

  3. Here comes number three who wishes she could attend!!! I might join Karen for pouting.
And I join Lucinda in wishing you the best of luck! I am very happy for you and it must be so satisfying to be using your own pattern. I so hope the class will be booked out! I will not gush too much about the pinafore and bloomers – they are adorable. And thankยดs for the fabric info ;-), I was especially curious about the kokka fabric, but I guess it is not available anymore. And “Yes!” to using nani iro for baby clothes!

    1. Thank you, thank you, Ute! Unfortunately that adorable bear Kokka is long out of print. I got it nearly seven years ago, and I made a cute little pillow out of it when I first got it ๐Ÿ™‚ These require so little fabric I don’t feel guilty about using up my Nani Iro – I was able to make them out of scraps. Win-win!

    1. It amazes me how far flung the folks visiting my little space are…it’s so very cool, and one day I would love to organize a get-together. Wouldn’t that be fun?

    1. Thanks, girl! The orange stripey bloomers are my fave, though they’re all kind of killing me with their cuteness ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Between your fabrics and the adorable pattern, I just can’t handle the cuteness! I want to see four babies lined up next to each other in these! Congrats on your class. Wish I were near you!

    1. Thanks so much, Caroline! That’s so funny – I actually tried to get a friend’s baby to pose in the outfits, but she (the baby) got sick on the day we were planning the photoshoot and I had to submit the pix to Drygoods, so I had to make do without the model. I think it would have made the outfits extra cute ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Wish I could attend! I just had my first and after a difficult pregnancy and post partum, I am ready to sew all that fabric I had ordered for her! Sadly though, Texas is a bit far. Congrats on teaching a class! Love reading your blog and seeing all your creations! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you, Jess! I’m so sorry to hear that your first pregnancy was a challenging one, but it sounds like you’ve powered through – that itch to start creating is a wonderful feeling, isn’t it?

    1. Thank you, Tracy! I hope I don’t have to follow-up with a post saying, “Soooo…it was canceled….” ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I realize I”m fortunate to live in Seattle and was able to take your
first class at Ballard Dry Goods. Now I’m anticipating this one and
hope to make an outfit for my year-old grandson.

    These are wonderful creations!

    Looking forward ~

    1. It was so lovely that you were in the last class and I’m looking forward to the next one, Joan! Your grandson would look smashing in the outfit, I’m sure!

    1. I was having serious baby yearnings while making these, Sophie! Too bad that ship has sailed for me, but I’m finding that I’m constantly making baby stuff for pregnant friends, which is so fun!

    1. Of course I would, An ๐Ÿ™‚ but I’m pretty sure you’d end up teaching the class instead of me because you’ve got mad skillz.

  7. Oh these are adorable! I too would love to know if the pattern is for sale, and if so, I would be overjoyed! I’d love to make a set for my little one, due in March 2015 ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I would love to buy the pattern, as well! These are the most adorable things I’ve seen in awhile and I’m always on the lookout for cuteness to sew!

  9. Hi I was also wondering if able to purchase the pinafore pattern and tackle it for a boy top! Thankyou for your consideration

  10. Hi. I would also love to buy this pattern. I have a baby girl due in early October and I would love to make these for her. Is the pattern available for purchase? Thank you.
