Happy Friday + Randomness

Happy Friday! So for today, I originally planned on promoting the class I’ll be teaching at Drygoods to get more people signed up, but just as I finished the post, Keli contacted me with the great news that it’s sold out (happy dance). I’ll be teaching how to make the quintessential Japanese-style tunic, of which I’ve made many. Above is an illo of the ones I’ve made to date and I’m sewing more as I type this. Very, very excited. And more good news: I will be teaching another class shortly after – we’re working out the details and I will update you as soon as it’s all sorted out!

And let’s not forget the winner for the sewpony Debbie’s Birthday Dress pattern! Congrats to random number generator #26: Katie P, whose favorite book is Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey. You should have received an email from me already, Katie, and I hope you’ll share with me and Suz your version of the Debbie’s Birthday Dress!

M lost his wallet a couple of weeks ago, and there was a flurry of activity and concern around identity theft, etc. All has been restored, thankfully, but it reminded me of a conversation I overheard between K and her friend last year that I found in one of my journals:

Friend: A robber stoled our credit card before…

K: How did it stole it?

Friend: I don’t know. It just did. And the robber used up all the money on the credit card.

K: All of it!!??

Friend: Yeah. Wait. All of it except for a dollar.

K: Whew. That’s good that it left a dollar!

Friend: I know!

I especially love the grammatical errors and the reference to the robber as “it”.

Have a happy weekend, all! See you on Monday!

  1. LOL – love K and friend’s concept of money . . . oh, to have that kind of financial freedom when one dollar solves their problems:)
Can I just express how dearly I wish I could jet over to DryGoods and take your class?! It sounds wonderful, and who does Japanese better than you? So happy for you that it’s sold out (of course it is!). Best wishes for it to go well, so much so that you go on teaching tours all the way to Michigan:)

    1. A teaching tour! What a fun notion – I have some exciting things brewing that could potentially lead to some expanded teaching and I will keep you posted!

  2. Oh, I wish I lived a bit closer (than the UK) so I could attend your class!

I just love all the beautiful Japanese style clothes you sew for your daughter. Your blog has inspired me to (successfully) sew up a few patterns from my Japanese pattern books, rather than just page through them! :-). Best wishes.

    1. Thank you so much, Rhoda! That’s wonderful that you’re using Japanese pattern books; I’m quite obsessed with them 🙂

  3. Congratulations on filling the class so quickly! I hope that you offer this (or a similar class) again some time, as I didn’t have my act together to register for this one. On another note, do you know of a good Japanese patten book with baby/toddler/younger kid things (including for boys)? I now have two good books to try for my daughter but would like to try something for our new little guy as well. Thanks!
