Happy Friday + Boho Dolman Top

October 19, 2012

Happy Friday, friends! Here is the last of my KCWC creations from last week that I was finally able to get photographed.

First, the fabric: a GORGEOUS embroidered delicate knit. I am in love with the colors.

Second, the pattern: self-drafted. Sadly, I am no pattern maker and this was not a huge success. Since I’m not the best at sewing knits, it looks somewhat frumpy to me. But you know what? Six-year-olds don’t stay still long enough, so my many sewing sins are hard to detect.

I think it looks a little like it could have come from Anthropologie – what do you think?

Have a fabulous weekend, all!

Very cute and rustic, and yes, Anthropologie-ish. It *is* a gorgeous fabric. I think it would also make a great sundress πŸ™‚

Good idea! I still have some of the fabric left and might be able to squeeze a sundress out of it. πŸ™‚

The fabric is fabulous! Wow… The drafting of your pattern isn’t bad, but I understand where you’re coming from. Yah, knits aren’t the easiest to work with. I’m sewing some as we speak and we have a love/hate relationship.

Practice makes perfect. You will get there. The top looks to good that I can have one too. I am children size 12. πŸ˜‰

Thanks, Connie – perhaps I will have a size 12 for you when I’ve gotten my pattern-making skills up to snuff! I am practicing, practicing, practicing πŸ™‚

I just realized that this week marks 10 years sinc I just realized that this week marks 10 years since my first craft book Sewing Happiness was published. I’ve sewn literally thousands of garments and other textile projects in the last decade! I included a Sashiko primer in the book, and I’m delighted that this humble Japanese embroidery practice has stood the test of time - if anything, I’ve noticed that there’s an ever growing enthusiasm for hand stitching. Fun news: I’ll be teaching a virtual Sashiko workshop for @tatterbluelibrary on Thursday, April 30th at noon ET. Link in profile! Would love to see you there! πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™
