Happy Friday + Randomness

Happy Friday, my lovely friends! I had hoped to be much more productive this week with K in camp (which has been so fantastic – art! glass museum and ceramics studio visits! 3-D movies!), but I’ve mysteriously frittered away time and now I’ll be doing “Mama camp” at K’s request for the remainder of summer. Postings might get spotty the next couple of weeks, but I will do my best to stick to my regular programming!

Some exciting news: I’m teaching a sewing class! I like to call Keli, the owner of the fabulous Drygoods Design, my “fabric dealer”. I love Keli. Not only is she super cool and fun, she has the most discerning eye when it comes to textile design and her store really is delightful and very dangerous for the likes of me on a fabric diet. As you’ve surmised I’m sure, I will be teaching at Drygoods’ adorable sewing studio make*do*mend. It’s going to be an all-day workshop covering — what else? — how to sew from Japanese patterns! More details forthcoming, but the date is currently set for October 13th, and I’ll keep you posted on updates for those of you local that might want to sign up. Nervous! Thrilled! (up there is an illustration Keli commissioned for their store – they carry tote bags with the design too.)

On blogging:

K: Mommy, you’re famous!

Me: I am?

K: Yeah, SO MANY people check your blog at my school. Like, THREE people! [here, she shook her head in sincere wonder]

++++++++++++++++++++++++

About camp:

K: Mama, I love camp!! It’s so fun and my favorite part is going outside rather than the art room.

Me: What is it about outside that you like better?

K: You know, I like to chillax. The art room is too much work.

Have a wonderful weekend full of chillaxing, everyone — see you back here on Monday!

Pitter pattering
unexpected rain* propels
cool weather sewing

*It’s suddenly chilly and rainy here in Seattle — good for Fall sewing mojo!

  1. GAH. We already have plans that weekend or I’d totally be working on the husband to take a solo Seattle trip to check out your class (and Keli’s shop!). How fun you get to teach there!

    1. Oh bummer! Would have been so fun! I’m set on making a trip down to Portland so we have to get together then (a trip to Bolt would be mandatory, of course)! 🙂

  2. Awww man! I wanna go to your class! I need to somehow get my butt up to Seattle, but I’m afraid I’ll never come back.

“chillax”-HA! I thought we were the only ones who used that word! Careful Sanae, having THREE people read your blog can really get to a person’s head. 😉

    Have a great weekend, friend!

p.s.Remember the MCAll’s top pattern? I finally sewn one up! I’ll show you once I get pics! 😉

    1. If you ever make it to the Seattle area, you HAVE to let me know, Venus! We’ll wear our McCall tops and be twinsies 🙂

    1. Thank you, Meghan! Mama camp is going to take some planning, so I’ll be doing a lot of that this weekend. We’ll have to end summer on a high note, so that’s a bit of pressure….

  3. Yet another reason to wish I lived closer to Drygoods Design! As if I weren’t already wishing to visit this store, now you sweeten the deal and teach a class there! How I wish I could learn under your tutelage:) I’m sure you’ll have a blast!
Happy weekend to you, and spending time with K these last weeks before school is about the best possible reason to not post, so don’t sweat it!

    1. We need to do a Vancouver/Pacific Northwest get-together, Lucinda! As for posting next week, I’m such a creature of habit, I’ll probably feel too weird not posting every day, but I do want to savor these last few days of summer. 🙂 We shall see…

  4. How exciting! I am so happy for you and wish I could attend! This blogging cosmmunity makes the worldseem so small at times, but this ocean between Germany and the USA IS pretty big… And I totally agree with K, in my little world you are famous, too! 🙂
Have a great mommy camp (do you ever sew together with K?)!

    1. I’m SO excited Ute! I’ve done quite a bit of teaching/training in my hodge podge career, but this is my first sewing teaching gig, so I’m pretty nervous. Should be a lot of fun though!

And yes! K and I do sew together sometimes, though she doesn’t like to do it for too long – she’s an outdoor play kind of girl.

      Have a wonderful weekend, Ute!

  5. I am a new follower of your fabulous blog and I was excited to find out that you are from Seattle, as I live in Bellingham. I discovered Drygoods Design when Rae Was in town sharing her Washi goodies. I made the drive to see her and it was oh so fun meeting someone so famous from blogland!! I was SUPER excited when I heard about your class on Drygoods’ FB page! Not only to be able to meet you, another celebrity from blogland, but to get some tips on how to tackle Japanese patterns. I can’t wait!!

    1. Hooray, I’m excited to meet you Shelley!! I hope I can make it worth the drive…so honored! And I have to confess that I burst out laughing when I read “celebrity from blogland” – you will see, Shelley, how un-celebrity-like I am 🙂

  6. how exciting is that?? congratulations sanae! i would soooo love to visit drygoods design and take your class…who knows, maybe the stars will align! and the illustration is gorgeous. you are so talented!!

    1. Thanks Gail! How awesome if the stars manage to align :-). We will meet one day regardless, I’m sure of this.

    1. Ooh, online classes….now that’s an idea. Of course there is the small matter of having to record my voice and cringing at the number of times I use the word “like” (I’m from L.A. after all…).
