Happy Friday + Randomness

August 5, 2016

seattle-japanese-garden-map

Happy Friday! Keeping it super duper short today since we’re attempting to get out of town this weekend. Above is one of the projects I worked on recently for the Seattle Japanese Garden that I believe is already printed by now. I had a wonderful time painting this, and it will be part of their self walking tour brochure. Fun! I hope to work on more maps in the future. I recently saw this book and this book in a store, and deliberated long and hard about purchasing them, but in the end, I left them on the shelf. I heart maps.

What are you up to,
this fine August end o’ week?
Hope it’s full of joy!

P.S. The winner of the embroidery book giveaway is Janice, congrats!

Oh, I want that map of the world book!!! That would be perfect for my grandchildren. I have read most of your recommendations for books. Love the death date one and the one about the Paris houseboat. Just wonderful!! So, just add map maker and book editor to your resume. Your list of possible new jobs just get longer and longer. Such an exciting search.

Both books look amazing, and I will eventually add them to my “library” I’m sure :-). Weren’t the Death date book and the Paris houseboat stories so fun? The search IS exciting — so much going on! Thanks, Greta!

The word that incites terror in most newbie sewing The word that incites terror in most newbie sewing enthusiasts: zippers. Now that I have a few years of sewing under my belt I’m less cowed by them, but there’s something about long, separating zippers that still makes me nervous. I powered through, however, and made this versatile twill hooded jacket originating from a @patterncouture_ zip-up hoodie pattern meant for knit fabrics that I modified a lot. I blogged about it! Link in bio if you’d like to see the different versions I created.

To skip zippers altogether and make a truly summery garment, swipe and check out my NEW @creativebug Tiered Dress class (link also in bio!). Back to sewing more hot weather stuff because I’m going to Japan for a special trip next week! 🇯🇵🇯🇵
