Painting the Town

Sometimes, a product can change your life. I’ve had quite a few of those life-altering moments with the Magic Eraser, my phone, my camera. However, there is probably no other appliance or gadget in our household with greater impact than our espresso machine. M and I got the Pixie for our wedding anniversary this past September, and I think it’s safe to say that coffee has replaced blood in my veins.

M doesn’t get mentioned as frequently here on this blog, but he is our anchor. A caffeine-fueled anchor. He introduced me to espressos, really, though he is hardcore and drinks them straight whereas I dilute my coffee drinks with insane amounts of milk and sugar.

For M’s handmade Christmas gift, K and I went to the local ceramics place called Paint the Town and gussied up some espresso cups. So fun. I painted the one with the plaid as an homage to the shirts that M favors. K worked on the one with the charmingly spelled “espresso”. The grey one has “Dad” on one side and “The Honey” on the other. A joint effort. M loves them, and uses them daily.

I have a busy day ahead of me – I am going to K’s school to teach ceramics (which is hilarious to me since I know nothing about ceramics) and then I’m off to go hang my canvases at Drygoods Design for the Art Walk. I’ll be back tomorrow with some sneak peeks!

  1. Too funny, just this morning C told me she wants to go do some “very breakable painting”, and this is exactly what she has in mind. The cups are lovely. And I’m jealous of your espresso machine… I could sure use a few cups if that today! Have fun hanging up your work, yahoo!

    1. Thanks, Robin! I love going to those paint-the-pottery type places with K. It’s a great way to spend time with kids and I noticed that an hour or two will fly right by. I have a feeling the espresso machine is probably doing horrible things to my innards, but it’s wonderful 🙂

  2. What a great gift idea! And you got a fun date in with your daughter to boot – good planning:) Love the plaid one – right away my eye was drawn to the blues and greens. But K did a fabulous job as well! The grey stripe with orange dot is fantastic! And how fun for her to see her daddy use them so frequently:) I’m telling you . . .she has her mommy’s crafty genes (that is, “crafty” in a good way:).

  3. Also – so excited about your artwork at the ArtWalk! Did the hanging go well today? So excited to see what they look like!

  4. beyond adorable! (and eminently buyable if you were to open a ceramics shop . . .)
our espresso machine had been ‘sick’ for almost a year but it’s reassuringly back on the bench now keeping us good, gurgling company.

    1. Xenia, you were able to survive for a year without your espresso machine? Amazing. I don’t think I could last a day 🙂 It would be fun to sell ceramics – perhaps some day in the distant future…
