A crafty little atelier in a grey city

Happy Friday + Randomness

January 29, 2016

blue-girl-branches

Happy Friday! I’ve been noticing that I like to go in cycles when it comes to making things. Right now, I’m feeling a huge resurgence of love for sewing and my sketching/painting is taking a back seat. I had a brief fling with knitting and then my enthusiasm waned, but I can tell that I’ll want to go back once the sewing bug eases up a bit. Do you find that? Are you the alternating or concurrent type? I used to think I liked to dabble in a variety of crafts at the same time, but lately I want to focus more — what is it that they call it? Single-tasking, I think.

Anyway, I painted this li’l blue-grey lady a while back with some beautiful handmade Greenleaf and Blueberry watercolors (based here in Washington!).

We had a balmy, sunny, I-want-to-run-around-without-my-winter-coat kind of day yesterday and I’m hoping for some more of those.

I’m wishing you a happy weekend!

Haiku by K:

Friday is the best
No homework I need to do
I get to relax

I am kind of a single minded gal… mostly just sewing. I find my mind is too cluttered trying to remember to many things! Up here it’s raining today, not sure if it is in Seattle too. But yesterday was beautiful!! 🙂

That’s awesome that you’re so focused, Kristi! Yes, the weather’s been flip flopping here in the PNW, hasn’t it?

I like that haiku by K!

I am pretty much a one-obsession-at-a-time type of gal. That’s why I haven’t been sewing because I’ve been knitting! Now I am eyeing beading…! One of the things I am trying to do better in this year is to not get focused so much on just ONE thing. *sigh* We’ll see how successful I get with it.

Happy weekend. We had some lovely sunshine yesterday but we are back to the pitter-patter of rain as I type.

Oooh, beading sounds like fun! My mom is hugely into it, especially because my grandma (her mother) did beadwork in Japan. 🙂 Nothing wrong with one thing, I say!

I definitely oscillate between many many (“too many!” my boyfriend says) hobbies. It keeps things refreshing 🙂 but results in a few unfinished projects always lying around. And, what a coincidence that you’re using naturally-made pigment. I’m taking a class tomorrow on how to make my own!! http://www.hand-made-studio.org/classesandworkshops/2016/1/30/supernatural-paint 😀

Yes I usually switch from one to another. But I also usually have a knitting project I can work on in the car which means I would technically be working on two at the same time.

I do love the portability of knitting! I think I’m incapable of doing just one thing so I do have things in the works all the time, but I’m hoping I can harness some laser focus on certain projects! Thanks, Em!

I’m like that too 🙂 I have a few different creative hobbies and I tend to obsess randomly over one. No logic. I’m just like “must knit all of the things” until it runs it’s course haha!

So right with you, Kathryn! I think each different type of crafting/making satisfies a different part of my brain :-).
