Happy Friday + Randomness

November 21, 2014

stickers-for-you

Happy Friday! A truly random bit of info: almost every Sunday, M has what we call “DDT” or Daddy Daughter Time. He started this tradition when K was about a year old, and takes her out on a date each week. Their time together ranges in activity: bike riding or a scoop of ice cream or just lounging around. It’s a win-win all around because while they bond, I get to sneak in some extra work (or fun) time. And almost every Sunday, I go to the same coffee shop and every once in a while, there is a little girl enjoying her own DDT. She’s about three-years-old with big sparkly eyes and a little bob, and she goes around handing out stickers to all the cafe patrons. I’ve gotten about six stickers to date and I stick them in my journal. So charming.

K is super into making jokes and we thought this was a keeper:

Q: Why are singers always in charge of fights?

A: Because they have the opera hand.

Have a wonderful weekend, friends!

There’s no school next week
Thanksgiving is upon us
We might eat Chinese*

*A few years ago, we went to a Chinese restaurant for turkey day because I didn’t have any time to cook anything (and we have no family in Seattle), and it turned out to be surprisingly festive and fun. We just may have a repeat performance since I’m in deadline mode…

when we lived in NYC one of our favorite things to do on holidays was go out for Chinese and see a movie. we were even thinking of doing that this year and booking a hotel!

Oooh, now booking a hotel would be fun – a staycation of sorts! We’re planning the dinner and movie route for sure 🙂

K is quite the punster. Thanksgiving dinner at a Chinese restaurant sounds great. Where is it written that everyone in America has to make a huge, fancy, calorie-packed meal that requires hours of prep and hours of clean-up? It’s the spirit of fellowship that matters.

She is definitely a punster, JS! And you’re totally right — I love the idea of Thanksgiving and expressing gratitude, but the spirit of fellowship does seem to get obscured by all the food preparation and gluttony (at least the way I do it).

The word that incites terror in most newbie sewing The word that incites terror in most newbie sewing enthusiasts: zippers. Now that I have a few years of sewing under my belt I’m less cowed by them, but there’s something about long, separating zippers that still makes me nervous. I powered through, however, and made this versatile twill hooded jacket originating from a @patterncouture_ zip-up hoodie pattern meant for knit fabrics that I modified a lot. I blogged about it! Link in bio if you’d like to see the different versions I created.

To skip zippers altogether and make a truly summery garment, swipe and check out my NEW @creativebug Tiered Dress class (link also in bio!). Back to sewing more hot weather stuff because I’m going to Japan for a special trip next week! 🇯🇵🇯🇵
