Happy Friday + Randomness

halloween-prep2014

Happy Friday! On Wednesday, after K’s orthodontic appointment, we stopped off at a fabric store to see if they had any orange felt or knit for her requested pumpkin costume. Then she saw that Southwestern style print and immediately changed her mind about the pumpkin. Soon, a maroon fringe ribbon was added along with silver lace. “What do you want me to make?” I asked her. She shrugged and said, “I dunno, some maid-fancy-girl”. Hmmmmmm…..I am awaiting design specs with some trepidation.

On alliteration:

K: Mama! We’re learning how to come up with nicknames using the first letter of our names. For you, I thought of “Sanae Superglam”. Or, how about this? “Mama Megabucks”?

We laughed heartily at the irony of those nicknames.

I’m off to have coffee with a friend I haven’t seen in over seven years! She’s in town for just a few days, and I can’t wait to have a good catch up session. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

I am so loving
all the giveaway answers
so cool to find out*

*I had this secret theory that a lot of sewing folks would have science/math backgrounds, and I think my theory is holding pretty true! And can I just say that it’s awesome that some of you answered the question just to answer the question even though you already own the book. Thank you, I love getting to know you all better!

    1. Hope you had a great weekend, Nienke! It was wonderful seeing my friend – as though no time had passed. K has already changed her mind about her costume, can you believe it??

    1. Very astute of you, Morgan. K’s already decided that she wants to be a werewolf instead and begged me to just make a pretty dress out of the materials we got. 🙂

    1. Thanks Em! I love seeing old friends and reminiscing – we had a blast! And stay tuned for the costume, I’m still trying to figure out if I can incorporate that knit into a werewolf costume…

  1. I can’t wait to see how you interpret K’s uber-precise description of “maid-fancy-girl”! Love your willingness to roll with it . . . I could learn something from that. I’m such a Halloween grinch – will probably pull something out of the girls dress up box for Lilah and call it good:)
Love K’s alliterative descriptions of you, esp. the megabucks reference. If only, right?!
Hope you have a lovely coffee with your friend – catching up is such a delight, isn’t it? I did the same thing with an old friend when we were in Vancouver this summer and it was one of the highlights of the trip (along with certain other very enjoyable coffee dates:).
I can’t resist adding that I have to skew your theory just a titch: Education major with English and French concentrations. Was actually quite dismal at Math:)

    1. Though the maid-fancy-girl is no more, I have high hopes for a wearable outfit. 🙂 Catching up with old friends (and meeting up with new ones) is the best! I love that you had both English and French concentrations and yes, I’m dismal at math too, though maybe it’s all in my head because my mom found a bunch of math trophies I won when I was a kid. 😉

  2. So amazing catching up with my you, my uber talented friend. I’m so proud of how accomplished you are! Can’t wait to read your books and more actively follow your blog. Let’s do a project together! Hopefully, there will be many more visits to Seattle soon. Xoxox

    1. So so so wonderful to see you, Allie! We can’t let that much time pass again EVER. I need to really figure out how to get myself to SF! xo

  3. I look forward to seeing the costume! My daughter has finally settled on being Princess Anna. I’m having trouble getting motivated so I may make her a coat next instead. And from the previous post (so fun to read everyone’s answers!) I was a psychology major and got my elementary teaching certificate in undergrad, then a bit later got a masters in literacy. I briefly considered being a math major and math was one of my favorite subjects to teach.

    1. Oh, you’re a woman after my heart, Elizabeth! I did a lot of volunteer work involving literacy, and I’m very gung-ho about it. And I’m so impressed that you loved to teach math – I may need a refresher from you! Good luck with the Anna costume – Frozen Fever has died down in our household, which I have to admit is a relief…;-)
