KCWC Day 1: leggings

October 8, 2012

We had such a hectic weekend! In our rush to get from good-bye party to playdate to a wedding in time (M was officiating!) I threw out the cord thingy to download pictures from my camera, and now it is nowhere to be found. Hence, there will be no photographic evidence of my KCWC participation until said cord is located...I'm easing in with a super easy pattern anyway: Figgy's Sunki leggings. I started late last night, and maybe twenty (thirty?) minutes and a cranky serger later, I had two ... Read more

Colder Weather Essentials

October 4, 2012

Every year around this time as the temperature dips, my skin goes haywire. My hands become chapped and look like sandpaper. My lips appear painfully red, as though seventeen wasps decided to attack me at once. And the worst part is that it feels like I have a million paper cuts on my mouth. Ouch. A little known fact about me is that I am quite the skincare connoisseur. I have tried virtually every product on the market from the mega-luxe to drugstore cheapies. I can wax philosophical for ... October = Halloween

October 1, 2012

It's the first day of October! It's officially Fall (my favorite) and time to start thinking about Halloween costumes. Until the age of about 11, my brothers almost always dressed up as ninjas and I was invariably a princess. Princesses are so toddler for my little pumpkin, however. A collection of cute (temporary tattoo ideas)

September 27, 2012

Daily fun with gouache paint. Wouldn't these make cute temporary tattoos? I found this printable tattoo paper (such a cool idea!) and I'm working on a bunch of little designs. I'm eager to share some Halloween tattoos that I've got going and I can't wait to see how they turn out! ... Read more

I just realized that this week marks 10 years sinc I just realized that this week marks 10 years since my first craft book Sewing Happiness was published. I’ve sewn literally thousands of garments and other textile projects in the last decade! I included a Sashiko primer in the book, and I’m delighted that this humble Japanese embroidery practice has stood the test of time - if anything, I’ve noticed that there’s an ever growing enthusiasm for hand stitching. Fun news: I’ll be teaching a virtual Sashiko workshop for @tatterbluelibrary on Thursday, April 30th at noon ET. Link in profile! Would love to see you there! 💙💙💙💙💙
