Happy Friday! A few days ago, as K and I were walking back from school, we started talking about fairies as we are wont to do.<\/p>\n

K: Mommy, you know that fairies aren’t real, right?<\/p>\n

Me: What? What do you mean?<\/p>\n

K: They’re fiction. That means made up. Just like mermaids and Santa.<\/p>\n

Me: What makes you think that, sweetie?<\/p>\n

K: I saw it in the Tinkerbell movie – at the end when all those names start showing up, it said “this is a work of fiction”. So they’re not real, right?<\/p>\n

Me: Well……the movie might be fiction, but I think magic is very real, don’t you?<\/p>\n

K: [thinking about it]. Yup, magic is really real.<\/p>\n

And that was that. For the time being, fairies and mermaids and Santa have been restored in her seven-year-old mind, and thank goodness. I wasn’t ready for her to stop believing.<\/p>\n

Above is a painting I did on 6″x6″ clayboard using acrylic — I, for one, still believe in mermaids.<\/p>\n
