This has been a landmark week, friends. What you see above was, until Tuesday, K&#8217;s nemesis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>M bought this vintage beauty of a bike from the 1960s off of Craigslist last year in the hopes of teaching his rather&#8230;athletically-resistant (except when it comes to swimming) daughter how to finally cycle without training wheels. It never happened. It probably doesn&#8217;t help that it weighs about two tons. With two weeks of vacation left, we had to take action. So on Tuesday, K and I hauled out the dusty bike from the basement, got it adjusted at the local bike repair shop, and found an empty basketball court. It took two hours before she could balance. By the fourth hour, she could coast along with only a few wobbles, and by the fifth hour, we high-fived and called it a day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/k-bike4.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-6055\" title=\"k-bike4\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/k-bike4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/k-bike4.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/k-bike4-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s been riding her bike every day since and loves it. Embarrassed by her Barbie helmet that M got her last year, but intrepid nonetheless. More than anything, I am so proud of her tenacity. She wouldn&#8217;t give up until she got the basics down. She fell over and over, and cried copiously, but she had that &#8220;look&#8221; in her eye that meant business. It reminded me of this <a title=\"Suspended in time\" href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/?p=1227\" target=\"_blank\">post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, with one week to spare, we&#8217;ve accomplished a big, big goal. Sometimes. There are gazillions.<\/p>\n<p>K: Sheesh, Mommy, there aren&#8217;t gazillions of stars. The number is slightly less than that.<\/p>\n<p>******************************************************************************<\/p>\n<p>Have a wonderful weekend, all!
