We are a little sleepy here and are enjoying a lazy day off. Happy MLK Day to those of you here in the States! I went to K&#8217;s school for a special assembly on Friday and let me tell you&#8230;I was a blubbering mess when the first graders started singing &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/americanexperience\/features\/general-article\/soundtrack-lyrics\/#overcome\" target=\"_blank\">We Shall Overcome<\/a>&#8221; (accompanied by a parent playing a trumpet, no less). I have such a weakness for stripes. Always have. I&#8217;ve lost count of the number of striped t-shirts and sweaters and dresses that I own &#8211; most of them are in classic blacks\/greys\/navys with white, but I have pretty much every color combination. One of the neighbor girls actually said to me one time, &#8220;My mom looks like you today&#8221;, and her mom was wearing a striped knit top, of course (red and white).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/ahoy-audrey3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1732\" title=\"ahoy-audrey3\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/ahoy-audrey3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"978\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/ahoy-audrey3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/ahoy-audrey3-245x300.jpg 245w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So when I saw this knit turtleneck pattern with buttons from this\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.co.jp\/%E5%A5%B3%E3%81%AE%E5%AD%90%E3%81%AE%E3%81%8A%E3%81%97%E3%82%83%E3%82%8C%E6%9C%8D-%E8%8D%92%E6%9C%A8%E7%94%B1%E7%B4%80\/dp\/4529045269\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1358716709&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">book<\/a>, I simply had to make it in bold stripes. With grey buttons, naturally. It may possibly be my favorite thing I&#8217;ve made to date. Very french, very nautical, very Audrey Hepburn\u00a0<em>and<\/em>\u00a0Tautou (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0211915\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Am\u00e9lie<\/em><\/a>\u00a0is my favorite movie &#8211; I bet you&#8217;re not surprised). I hear that emerald is the\u00a0<em>it<\/em>\u00a0color for 2013, but I&#8217;m a mint green kind of gal. This is a significantly modified\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/oliverands.com\/blog\/2009\/03\/sailboat-pants-and-skirt.html\" target=\"_blank\">Oliver + S Sailor Pants<\/a>\u00a0pattern. I made it according to the instructions in blue, and it&#8217;s fantastic but it wasn&#8217;t the silhouette I had envisioned. \u00a0I wanted cigarette pants a la Hepburn so chopped up the pattern all over the place and eliminated button holes because they didn&#8217;t seem very functional for K. They are Campers for kids and another\u00a0<em>Ba-chan<\/em>\u00a0gift (we got them at a 50% off sale). By the way, we are transferring my blog to another server since there was a little spike in my traffic it seems and things keep going haywire.
