This was a momentous\u00a0and startling occurrence. I&#8217;ve been sewing from these books for five years, which means I haven&#8217;t bought her (or me!) any clothes for 60 months. Wait, that&#8217;s not true. I did buy the first day of school outfit <a href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/?p=15751\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Okay, K <em>has\u00a0<\/em>received an embarrassment of riches in terms of hand-me-downs from neighbors and she&#8217;s\u00a0worn the ready-to-wear\u00a0outfits exclusively and exuberantly for the last couple of years. Mildly discouraged but also relieved that it gave me more time to work on books, I had stopped sewing for her.<\/p>\n<p>But joy! K has a sudden renewed interest in handmade clothes and has been squeezing herself into the garb I stitched up years and years ago. I already had a few tween patterns on hand, but we were looking specifically for cardigan patterns. She has big, big love for cardis. And shrugs. And boleros. I&#8217;ll do another post on the New Look patterns that was part of the same haul, but these were the two Simplicity ones she liked: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simplicity.com\/simplicity-pattern-1510-girls---girls-plus-special-occasion-dress\/1510.html\" target=\"_blank\">1025<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simplicity.com\/simplicity-pattern-1510-girls---girls-plus-special-occasion-dress\/1510.html\" target=\"_blank\">1510<\/a> &#8212; see what I mean about the cardis and boleros?<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16272\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/simplicity1025-fauxcardi1.jpg\" alt=\"simplicity1025-fauxcardi1\" width=\"800\" height=\"605\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/simplicity1025-fauxcardi1.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/simplicity1025-fauxcardi1-300x227.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The funny thing about this view C of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simplicity.com\/simplicity-pattern-1025-knit-separates-for-girls-and-girls-plus\/1025.html\" target=\"_blank\">Simplicity 1025<\/a> is that it&#8217;s actually a <em>faux<\/em> cardi. The shirt portion is cleverly stitched as part of the cardigan. I didn&#8217;t realize this until I started sewing and was perplexed by the instructions and stared at them for a while. Once I figured it out, it was easy to assemble. K loves it. Size 8 seems to be spot on for my petite, almost 11-year-old in all the Big 4 patterns.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-16276\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/simplicity1025-skirt.jpg\" alt=\"simplicity1025-skirt\" width=\"800\" height=\"681\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/simplicity1025-skirt.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/simplicity1025-skirt-300x255.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>She also begged for the knit skirt, and chose all the fabrics from my stash.
