I hope you had a fantastic weekend, friends! I spent a good chunk of it making a puffy coat. Or at least attempted to.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11840\" alt=\"modified-alpine-coat2\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat2-300x111.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After a hackneyed research process, I stumbled upon the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.etsy.com\/listing\/119844645\/alpine-wonderland-puffy-coat-kids-winter?ref=shop_home_active_4\" target=\"_blank\">Alpine Wonderland Puffy Coat pattern<\/a>, and it was exactly what I wanted to make for K. But wouldn&#8217;t you know it, I didn&#8217;t have quite enough of the fabric that K picked out of my stash, so I nixed the hood and improvised with the collar a bit. It&#8217;s a take on the chinese collar, and I quilted the piece just for the heck of it, but the whole vibe is whispering &#8220;construction worker&#8221; to me. I was striving for Parisian chic, but missed the mark on this one.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat3.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11841\" alt=\"modified-alpine-coat3\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat3.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat3.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat3-300x199.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t love it. One of K&#8217;s all time favorite coat that I&#8217;ve made is the <a title=\"STYLO Issue 2: Part 2\" href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/?p=9799\" target=\"_blank\">Cadette Coat,<\/a> but she outgrew that one in a nanosecond so I went up a size for this pattern (I cut the 10). So yes, she&#8217;s drowning in pseudo-puffiness:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-11843\" alt=\"modified-alpine-coat5\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat5.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"1020\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat5.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/modified-alpine-coat5-235x300.jpg 235w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the plus side, this is a seriously toasty coat. The outer fabric is twill, I think, and it has some sheen to it. Though the screen makes it look a blah beige, it actually has more peachy undertones to it and I can see why K likes this color so much. The collar and sleeve cuffs are a taupe-y stretch polyester blend of some kind, and I think this wasn&#8217;t the best overall choice. The coat is quite easy to assemble, though it&#8217;s tricky to get all those layers through the sewing machine &#8212; I had to push and pull a lot while sewing. More than anything, where in the world did K get the &#8220;homeless&#8221; reference from?
