One of the benefits of having a mother who collects everything is that I can ask, &#8220;Hey, do you have any vintage-y thread on wooden spools in assorted colors?&#8221; And she brings me this:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/spools2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-10807\" alt=\"spools2\" src=\"http:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/spools2.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"1125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/spools2.jpg 800w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/spools2-213x300.jpg 213w, https:\/\/sanaeishida.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/spools2-728x1024.jpg 728w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a>(one errant plastic one snuck in there, I see).\u00a0I love the faded, peeling, cracked labels, the silk threads with saturated colors. Sometimes, multiple hues are wound onto one spool, and I can envision someone carefully saving every bit of thread decades ago. Back in the day, thread cost pennies.
